Projects
Here are the key projects of the Gaia-X Greek Hub, showcasing our efforts in fostering data sovereignty, interoperability, and innovation within the Gaia-X ecosystem.
Flex4Res - Horizon Europe
Manufacturing industries continuously face the challenge of delivering high-quality products under high production rates while minimizing non-value-adding activities. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is causing manufacturers to rethink and reassess their global supply chains and the flexibility of their production sites. Resilience means the ability to withstand difficult situations, while flexibility can be considered as the ability to accommodate changes without incurring significant extra costs. Production processes demanding high human skill such as forming processes, requires readjustment of the process parameters of all production steps as a new product evolves. The deficiencies can be attributed largely to the lack of efficient ways for trusted data sharing among the stakeholders without interoperability barriers. There is a need to be able to determine when such changes lead to deterministic-chaotic behaviour with far reaching consequences. Felx4Res provides an open platform to support production networks’ reconfiguration for resilient manufacturing value chains. Felx4Res will utilize platform-based manufacturing that builds on the state-of-the-art Gaia-X and IDS technologies for data-sharing in the horizontal supply chain and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) that is to implement intra-factory reconfiguration practices. Felx4Res considers the Digital Twin of the value-adding network a key enabling technology to achieve reconfiguration processes in highly flexible production systems and networks. The developed platform aims to improve the existing industry-established lean management approaches related to Reconfiguration Management through the digitalization of the production, characterized as Industry4.0, by allowing for the information sharing between value chain stakeholders.

AI-MATTERS - Digital Europe Programme
AI in Manufacturing TesTing and experimentation facilities for EuRopean SMEs (AI-MATTERS) is proposed by an agile network of seven nodes and one satellite. We aim to increase the resilience and the flexibility of the European manufacturing sector through the deployment of the latest developments in AI and robotics, and intelligent, autonomous systems for flexible production. Europe needs world-class and impactful reference facilities across the Union to allow SMEs and larger industries to test their AI-enabled concepts and innovative technologies in representative conditions, thereby bringing them closer to deployment. We are convinced that this initiative under the DIGITAL Europe Programme can boost the uptake of innovation within the European manufacturing industries that have suffered during the pandemic crises. Coordinated by CEA from the Paris- Saclay innovation ecosystem, AI-MATTERS brings together a consortium of major organisations from eight European countries (Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Greece, Spain and France). All consortium members bring their expertise in different manufacturing sectors such as automotive, space and mobility, textile, recycling, etc.

CircPlastX - Digital Europe Programme
CIRCPLASTX aims to create a data space for the plastics industry to enhance circularity through data sharing along the value chain. Societal and regulatory pressure is pushing companies to use more recycled materials and provide detailed information on materials used. CIRCPLASTX will offer a one-stop shop for exchanging data on products, materials, and manufacturing processes, enabling a more detailed analysis of environmental impact. Three services will be developed: i) MaaS for recycled plastics, including measurement and certification, ii) Data quality for substances, including REACH compliance, and iii) LCA data quality rating, including trusted and labelled data sources. These services will be co-developed and tested with industry partners, contributing to Green Deal goals and the digitization of the industry.

REED - Horizon Europe
The REED Project focuses on transforming the manufacturing of large and complex parts in the capital goods industry by creating an innovative Manufacturing as a Service (MaaS) platform. This platform will connect manufacturers with enabling technologies, equipment, and services, improving efficiency, precision, and sustainability in the production of bulky components. By redefining traditional supply chains into flexible and responsive value networks, REED promotes collaboration, increases productivity, and minimizes environmental impact while ensuring the high-quality standards required in sectors like energy, transportation, and heavy machinery.

DS4Skills - Digital Europe Programme
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, this project represents a significant milestone in the creation of a European Data Space for Skills, aiming to transform how data enhances education, skills development, and employment opportunities across Europe. By supporting education policies, enabling workforce upskilling, and promoting employment strategies, the project seeks to create a more agile, data-driven job market.
